Below we list all of the known issues with HUD3.  If you have any trouble using HUD3, please reference this list before contacting Support.  If one of the issues below matches your issue, we do not currently have a fix, but we are aware of the issue and we are working diligently to resolve it.

Modifying HUD3 system files in Program Files directory causes HUD to lose the ability to upgrade.

If you install HUD3 in the default directory under Windows Vista (C:/Program Files/Fonality/HUD3.0) and then you modify HUD3.ini using FAR or any other file manager or editor, the user's HUD3 client will no longer be able to properly update as new versions become available due to the mirroring function of the contents of Windows Vista Program Files folder.

In such a case, the user should delete all files from the HUD3.0 folder that do not require admin privileges (File manager should not be started under administrator – uncheck the ‘run as administrator’ checkbox in shortcut properties or same popup menu item over shortcut), and then perform an update/install of HUD3.

We strongly recommend that customers NOT alter any of the HUD3 files stored in the Program Files directory.

Making a call using HUD via Outlook, then closing the "New Call" dialog or Outlook causes the call to drop.

    Steps to reproduce:

The problem exists due to the TAPI implementation within Outlook by Microsoft.  Fonality cannot modify the Outlook application as this is proprietary software.  The simple work-around is not to close the Outlook application or the "New Call" dialog while on an active HUD call.

    1. Open Outlook Contacts
    2. Double-click on a contact in order to place a call via HUD
    3. Once your call is connected, close the "New Call" window or close Outlook
    4. The call is dropped

More than 8 thousand Outlook contacts causes issues with HUD Outlook Integration.

If you have greater than 8 thousand contacts in your Outlook Contacts view, you will need to increase the amount of system memory available for HUD.  You must perform the following:

    1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Fonality\HUD3.0 in Windows Explorer (double-click My Computer to begin)
    2. Right-click the HUD Settings file and choose Open With Notepad
    3. Add the following two lines at the bottom of the file:
      1. -Xms128m
      2. -Xmx256m
    4. Save the file
    5. Restart your HUD3 Client software

These two lines change the following HUD3 attributes:

    1. The first line specifies the initial java heap size (memory) in megabytes
    2. The second line specifies the maximum java heap size (memory) in megabytes

    HUD3 Graphically Unusable on Mac

If your HUD3 client ever has graphic rendering issues like these:

    ohnoes2.jpg

Please do the following to resolve this issue:

    1. Uninstall HUD3 completely
      1. Open a Finder window and navigate to your Applications directory
      2. Hold down the Command key and click the HUD3 executable and any other files with the word "HUD" in them
      3. Move all of the selected files to the trash (Command + Delete is quickest)
      4. Type in your password to authorization the removal of the HUD3 application
    2. Remove all traces of HUD from your computer
      1. Open Terminal.app (you can find it in the Applications --> utilities directory)
      2. Once the application opens, type cd /Users/<your username>/and press return
      3. Type sudo rm -rf .Fonality and press return
      4. Enter your system password at the password: prompt (if you are running as the Root account already - you will not be asked for a password)
    3. Download HUD3 client again

    HUD3 Edition "mysteriously" downgrades

(from Queues --> Agent for example)

Last night (1/13/2009) the HUD3 team made a significant upgrade to the HUD3 Authentication Server (HUS).  All HUD3 Edition information is now pulled from the customer database.

    IMPORTANT:
If you are missing HUD Queues please follow these instructions:

File -> Settings -> Connection.  Click Load Settings from Server

Desktop Alert "Answer" icon does not work with Softphones

The Fonality Softphone does not include a feature known as "auto off-hook" like Aastra or Polycom phones.  Because this feature is lacking, HUD3 cannot "answer" an incoming call to a softphone using the desktop alert "answer" icon.

You must answer an incoming call to your softphone via the softphone's GUI interface.

    Randomly losing Contacts or Permissions

In your HUD3 client, please do the following:

File -> Settings -> Connection.  Click Load Settings from Server

If the HUD3 client suddenly stops displaying all your Contacts or perhaps you lose the ability to see Agents in your Queues, please Load your Settings from the server as described above.

HUD runs poorly, slowly, is clunky, isn't responsive

You may need to upgrade your JRE (Java Runtime Environment) in order to provide HUD the foundation it requires to run efficiently.

If you are not the administrator for your organization, you will likely NOT be able to upgrade the JRE installed on your machine without administrator privileges.  Please contact your administrator and request a JRE upgrade.

Please visit Sun's Java Download Page in order to get the proper Java package for your environment.

The current recommended version for Windows users (XP or Vista) is 1.6.11Mac OS X users have Java 1.6 installed by default with Leopard, and Tiger users can upgrade via the Software Update application.

Software Update can be accessed by:

    1. Click the Apple Icon in the top left-hand corner of your desktop
    2. Select Software Update... from the list
    3. Install any Java updates that exist

HUD3 won't connect from my laptop!

    1. Open your Network Connections from the Start menu (Windows)
    2. Click Advanced --> Advanced Settings
    3. Move your on-board network connection to the top priority (over your wireless)
    4. Save your changes

HUD3 should try to connect via the LAN interface first and then attempt to connect via the wireless.  It appears that some laptops don't report that the LAN interface is available unless it is prioritized properly.
