Sometimes when creating new call menus, a general mailbox is desired that's not connected to any specific phone. This guide explains how to create these mailboxes using a voicemail-only extension with no phone connected to it. These mailboxes can be checked by any person at any phone who knows the voicemail password for this mailbox. You can also send messages to an email address if you wish.

    Creating the new extension/mailbox

    1. Click on Extensions --> add new extension
    2. Fill in all the required information for this extension. We suggest using your server number and mailbox number as the web username.  Example: 0000_7777 if your server number is 0000 and your mailbox number is 7777.
    3. In the Phones / Devices pull down menu select Voicemail-only Extension or Virtual Extension (always choose voicemail-only if it is available, the two options present differntly based on your software version).
    4. Be sure that Voicemail Enabled remains set to "yes" and that you specify your desired voicemail password (pass code).
    5. Click the Add Extension button.
    6. To record the greetings for this new extension/mailbox dial extension 8500 from any phone on your trixbox Pro . Enter the mailbox number and password when prompted. You can enter "#" at the end of each to speed up the login process.  Press the "0" option and follow the prompts to record the "Unavailable" message.
    7. For more information on using the Voicemail system, please read Voicemail System Options
